Happy first day of the #HappyNewYOU Challenge!
Today, I wanted to share one of my biggest tips for reaching your goals — staying hydrated.
Hydration and drinking water is key for helping your reach your goals — so I wanted to make sure you had my BEST tips for staying hydrated throughout the day and during your workouts!
How much water do you need? – The simplest way to find out how much water you need it to take your weight in pounds, and divide it by two. This will give you the amount of water you need to drink each day in ounces.
Example: 140 pounds÷ 2 = 70 ounces
Start the Day with Water – Every day BEFORE you enjoy your coffee 😉 down a big glass of water. I do this and it REALLY helps me wake up. Getting water in early will help replenish fluids lost overnight after 8 hours of not drinking any water.
Plan Ahead – ALWAYS have water with you — if it’s right in front of you, you will remember to drink it. Buy yourself a water bottle, and make sure you fill it before you leave the house. Have a bottle you KNOW the size of and make it a point to drink it fully before refilling. For example, most of my water bottles are 20 ounce bottles, I know that I need to drink AT LEAST 3 full bottles each day to get 60 ounces of water in. (My minimum intake should be about 60 ounces — but I always go for about 80-100 ounces to counter balance my workouts!)
Sip Unsweetened Flavored Water – If you’re someone who “doesn’t like water” or “thinks it’s boring” try finding flavored water that is unsweetened. I’m loving Simple Truth right now to change things up a bit — and bonus, it’s MUCH easier to persuade Nik to drink more water! — It has none of those nasty fake sweeteners in it (most of which can cause tummy issues). Simple Truth is ZERO everything — no calories, no sodium and no fat/carbs/protein — just hydration!
Infuse It – If you don’t want to buy the flavored water you can also, just infuse it yourself with fresh fruit. It will make your water super tasty — plus you’ll get a few extra nutrients too! 😉 I LOVE infusing my water with fresh raspberries and limes — SO GOOD!
Set a Reminder – If you’re really bad about drinking water, why not set yourself a reminder every hour to drink a glass of water.
Don’t forget about Happy Hour! – You ladies know I love my champagne…but when you’re out with girlfriends (or your hubby!) make sure to drink one BIG glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have to stay properly hydrated, and keep your fluids balanced.
Staying Hydrated while Working Out – Last, but not least, it’s also really important to make sure that when you are working out in hot climates or working out for a long time that you are also getting electrolytes in. Simple Truth is vapor distilled to remove all impurities and minerals, and electrolytes are added for taste — including calcium chloride, potassium bicarbonate and magnesium chloride — important minerals you need while working out.
