Some of you have been asking me about tips for staying healthy at work and while on the go, and I wanted to share some of my best tips for staying on track this New Years, and living healthy both at home and at work.
Most of us spend almost a THIRD of our daily life at work, so it definitely has an impact on our health. These tips will help you to stay healthy not only physically, but mentally too, for overall total wellness.
Tips for Staying Healthy at Work
ALWAYS Have Water in Eye-Sight – This is crucial!! So many of my clients complain that they never drink enough water — and most of the time, it is during the work hours that they are consuming the least amount of water. Staying hydrated is one of the most important rules to staying healthy, and the best way to make sure you’re getting your water in is to keep it right in front of you. I always have a large glass or bottle of water right in front of me on my desk. Sometimes I like adding some fresh fruit or lemon for a fun little twist!
Watch Your Caffeine Intake – Trust me, I know this can be hard — but too much of a good thing, well, it’s good! And caffeine is definitely one of those things. Make sure you limit your caffeine drinks to one or two a day — and avoid those sugar caffeine sodas at all costs. There’s nothing good about them!
Pack a Healthy Breakfast or Lunch – This is second after staying hydrated — breakfast and lunch are SO important for making sure you don’t binge later in the day. And the best way to ensure your staying on track with your health and fitness goals (and New Years Resolutions!) is to bring a healthy breakfast and lunch. Get Up and MOVE – Whenever you can during the day, get up from your desk and walk around. Instead of sending an email to a co-worker down the hall, get up and walk to them. Stretch your legs outside on your lunch break. Stretch at you desk to help your posture. There are plenty of ways to keep moving throughout the day, and I promise, your body will thank you — we weren’t meant to sit 10 hours a day!!
Skip Happy Hour (most of the time! 😉 ) – This is a no brainer — but I’m going to say it again. Don’t get tempted into heading to happy hour every other night. I’m not saying that you can never have any fun…but limit it to only special occasions, or no more than once a week. And ALWAYS be sure to pace yourself when you head out. Drink one large glass of water for every alcoholic drink, and only have a maximum of two drinks…oh yeah, and forgo the finger foods and apps!
Wash Your Hands…A LOT! – Ok, I wouldn’t say I’m really a germaphobe…but when you work in a office with a lot of other people, someone is always bound to be sick. So this is definitely one time were I would say to wash your hands…a lot! Especially before you eat anything, or after coming into contact with some your know is sick.
Meditate – This will keep your mind and spirit healthy. Work is stressful…no matter how much you may love your job. There will be times when you feel like you’re at your breaking point, and the best way to control your emotions is to take a few minutes to meditate. If a co-worker or your boss if getting on your nerves take a few steps back, find a quiet space, or head outside and just sit for a few minutes to calm down. Allow yourself to take a few deep breaths, and put your big girl panties on, and deal with your stress head on. Remember, you are a #GIRLBOSS!
